Hailing from parts all over Massachusetts, from Cape Cod, to Cape Ann: The Works is Boston's favorite a cappella singing group.
Two women, four men: great tunes
The Works perform an eclectic mix of contemporary close harmony from the B-52s to Gershwin; from Ricki Lee Jones to James Brown.
Combining gorgeous harmonies with witty songs, The Works are sure to entertain with fun-filled music for any audience.
We've performed in a wide variety of settings from intimate anniversary parties, to business meetings with large gatherings of 3,000 people in a room!
Here's an alternate description of the group (from a gig we once did in Princeton, NJ):
"Hailing from the Athens of America, "The Works" have risen far from their humble beginnings. All of the founding 45 members of the group (30 of whom still are with the ensemble) travailed together as members of street-cleaning/snow removal division of the Boston Public Works department. After a long day of sweeping the long avenues of Boston's Back Bay, there still is nothing these laborers enjoy more than gathering together in one of the smoky Irish saloons down by the halibut boat slips to sing a round of "Sweet Adeline," Icelandic ditties or a medley of Tibetan tri-tonal vespers. The Works are excited to have brought their unique combination of velvety blending and sardonic wit down south once again for this year's Harmonic Convergence."
We're NOT Barbershop!
